Why the cheaper pack can show a higher DA
You will notice the foundation packs quote DA 30–90 and the contextual packs DA 20–50. Both are accurate, and they measure different things. On a web 2.0 or profile link, the DA belongs to the platform— a page on a big blogging host inherits that host’s score, not its own. On a contextual placement, the DA belongs to the independent site your link is actually on. That is why we quote the smaller number for the dearer pack rather than the flattering one.

How competitor link building works
Every site that ranks leaves a public trail of links behind it. Competitor link building starts from that trail instead of a generic list: the domains linking to the sites you compete with are, almost by definition, domains that link to sites like yours.
Not every link on that trail can be copied. A publication that wrote about your rival will not write the same story about you on request. But a large share of any backlink profile is made of places that accept new members, listings and contributions, and those can be replicated.
What the competitor backlink analysis covers
You send the competitor URLs, or your target keyword if you would rather we use the sites ranking for it. Their referring domains are sorted into sources that accept new links and sources that do not, and the 50 links are built from the first group.
This is analysis in service of building links, not a standalone audit. What you receive is the 50 links, not a written report on your competitors' profiles.
Replicating their links without copying their mistakes
A competitor's profile holds junk as well as value: spam comments, abandoned directories, links from sites that have since changed hands. The aim is to replicate the sources worth having, not every link a competitor happens to hold.
Where a valuable link can't be copied, a comparable site stands in, so the count reaches 50 without being padded.
